In this new series, experts weigh in on some of the common fallacies surrounding the nature of fraud and its perpetrators.There are a number of misconceptions about fraud, including why people commit fraud, issues in profiling, and the “victimless” nature of it. In addition, despite the temptation to label perpetrators as “mentally ill,” this is not necessarily true. However, when investigations dismiss the greed motivation theory, important information on the real psychological causes of fraud can be revealed.
