Mindfulness is the simple way to start living an eco-friendly lifestyle and staying in tune with life. Instead of constantly being pulled away from the world around you and letting life pass you by, start living in tune with what’s happening right now. There are many ways to improve your well-being. 1. Find a place and time that works for you. While we live in a fast-paced, high-stress society, try and find at least ten minutes each day where you can be still and quiet. Some of my favorite places are either early in the morning or late at night when I don’t have to worry about noise, distraction or anything other than me and nature.

2. Use your senses. When you really look at something with your eyes, you see much more than what meets your eye -– there’s a whole experience behind it! Engage all of your senses by observing what you see, hear what you hear, smelling what you smell, and tasting (yes, tasting!) whatever you taste.

3. Be mindful. Mindfulness means being aware of yourself and those around you while taking part in activities such as hiking or sitting quietly on a bench. It’s easy to get caught up in our own thoughts –- especially negative ones –- but mindfulness helps us tune into our surroundings without judgment so we can appreciate them fully.

4. Act on what you learn from nature. We tend to forget what we hear and see once we leave a place, but if you act based on what you learn, then it’ll stay with you forever. Whether it’s cleaning up after yourself during a hike or turning off lights when they aren’t needed, remember that every little bit counts.

5. Get involved in local groups that practice eco-mindfulness.

You can save energy by keeping your desktop in standby mode when it’s not in use. You can also save energy by turning off your car engine whenever possible. Another way to save energy is to take shorter showers or use power-saving techniques. Finally, you can save energy by unplugging electronic devices when they’re fully charged.

Another way to live sustainably is to think about where our food comes from. We should ask ourselves questions like where the animal that we’re eating came from, and what happened to it before it became food. We should also be mindful of what organic produce means.

Another important aspect of mindfulness: Thinking about what we buy and if we need it.
Does that new plastic bag really make sense?
Do you actually need another pair of shoes?

And finally, remember that everything around us was once alive. When we have a plant die or throw out food scraps, we’re wasting life itself! Be sure to compost your organic matter instead of throwing it away. And don’t forget to recycle whenever possible
